Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!

While I haven’t dressed up in years, I still managed to get roped into my school’s Halloween parade at lunch.  Luckily, you don’t have to be in costume for this parade, you just have to be a twin….kind of.  Basically, it’s a doppleganger parade; a student has to ask to dress up as you for this parade and then all the faculty members and their “twin” do some sort of waltz or something during lunch to show off the twinning.  One of my seniors asked to dress up as me, so now I get to be in the parade….yay.  It’s cute and flattering to be asked, especially since it’s my first year here, but we know how I feel about being the center of attention.  I’d rather do anything but….BUT since she asked, I’ll do it.

We’re finishing up the Nightmare on Elm Street movies to wrap up our month of horror movies that we do in October.  Now we did do some legitimately scary movies for October, but most of them, especially after the 12th viewing, are just cheesy.  It doesn’t stop us from watching them though.  I don’t know of anyone that doesn’t appreciate a good Freddy Krueger movie.

However, I will fully admit that Insidious (especially the second one) got me.  Like they actually made me jump kind of got me (and the first one got Devon to almost jump out of his seat); most movies don’t do that.  If you’re a fan of scary movies, I highly recommend those.  I don’t really want to give a ton away, but I promise you will not be disappointed.

Since Devon and I both work in schools that do some sort of Halloween celebration, neither of us is big on the whole trick-or-treating thing in our neighborhood.  Yeah, we’re that house that doesn’t have the porch light on for a reason.  We’re fine to celebrate in school, but once we’re home, the little tykes can hit the houses next door.  We do however make sure we have candy for us….mostly because candy is delicious.

I hope all of you that are going all out in your celebrations this year have a great time and do so safely.

And if you aren’t….then it might be a good idea to take the day and prepare yourself for…..

I’ve already seen Christmas decorations out in most stores.  Now, it will time for carols everywhere 24/7 until New Years.

Happy Holidays!!!

8 Months Until The Big Day!

10 / 24 / 17

Since we are exactly 8 months, to the day, from our wedding, I thought I would share a bit of an update.

First of all, it sounds so weird to say that we only have 8 months left.  It’s even crazier to think that we’ve already been engaged for 11 months.  Time is just flying!

*So you know that moment when you feel like you have part of your life together but not fully? That’s my life, right now.

*Devon and I were going to go get our passports done yesterday, but I haven’t the foggiest idea where my birth certificate is, and it annoys me.  Mostly because it’s not where it’s supposed to be and I don’t remember the last time was I saw it.  So, not only do I have to get another one, but I actually have to get it by mail because the only office of vital records here is up in northern-ish Baltimore and they’re only open from 8am-4pm Monday-Friday.  I work, for those who forgot and I work near DC, so I would literally have to take at least half a day off to get it and I don’t have that kind of time.  So, mailing it will have to happen.  Hopefully, it doesn’t take 10 years to get here.

*I spent a good three hours deep cleaning the back part of our apartment yesterday.  Partially, it was out of annoyance because I couldn’t find my birth certificate (I have a tendency to stress-clean) and partially because it needed a cleaning out.  Our office hasn’t been that organized since the beginning of summer, so it’s nice to be able to have full range of that room again.  I know if I kept it up better, this wouldn’t be a thing, but that room is so hard to up-keep.

*I totally thought it was like 3 or 4 in the afternoon, to just look over and see that it’s only 1:30.  I’m more than okay with that.

*We booked our honeymoon flights today!!  I’m so excited!  I’m going to give an actual update here this week on what has been going on because we’ve done quite a bit lately for the wedding, but the flights being booked is super exciting to me!  Now, we just need to book hotels and figure out what we’re doing while we’re abroad.

*I’m getting the chance to see a few of my Keough girls over the next few weeks (my school last year) and I’m really excited.  A couple of them are in a play at their new school this coming weekend that Devon and I are going to go and see.  One of them has never actually acted in a school play before, so I’m so happy she’s coming out of her comfort zone for this and I can’t wait to see her perform.  And I made plans with another one of my girls to go to lunch next Friday when my school has a half day.  She started her Freshman year at Howard U. this year, so she’s actually pretty close to where I work; it’ll be nice to see her.  I feel so lucky that I still get to be part of these girls’ lives; I look forward to visiting with them.

*Essentially my house is clean and I’m all meal prepped for the week, so I have the illusion of having my life together….however…..we know I don’t.  But I’m going to marvel at the amazingness of it all being done and go relax for a bit now.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

My Favorite Make-Up Primer (plus, it’s a drugstore brand….)

10 / 17 / 17

I admit, I’ve tried the expensive and “cult-favorite” make-up primers and I never really felt like they worked for me.

I have pretty oily skin; as in my T-zone can look like an oil slick within about 2 hours of applying make-up (if I’m lucky and it waits that long) and pretty much all my makeup has melted off within, maybe, 8 hours.

It’s bad.

Part of me isn’t mad about it because people with oily skin tend to show age a lot slower than those with dry.  You don’t see crows feet and lines/wrinkles as early or as easily. Obviously, some of that is also genetic, but my mother and grandmother and aunt all have the same oily skin issues and none of them have ever looked their ages.  So, I’ll live with the oily.

But applying make-up always seemed pointless.

Another Change Coming….

10 / 12 / 17

But not me this time.

Devon is actually doing the changing this time.  Which, if you know him is utterly shocking.

And no we’re not breaking up.  I have my wedding dress, damnit, we’re down the aisle.
