Budding Makeup Guru!!

Okay, probably not really, BUT….I am trying to up my game a little…kinda sorta…..

Let me just say, first and foremost, I am very much a minimalist when it comes to makeup.  I’m pretty “functional”, I guess when it comes to wearing makeup, I’m not super adventurous or anything like that.  In fact the majority of my “makeup collection” fits into this makeup bag, right here:

makeup bag

All the makeup I use/own is literally in this little bag with the exception of my mascara, eye shadow, and powder brush.  And they would fit in here, I just don’t feel the need to carry any of it with me.

So, really, I don’t do a lot to my face.  I never have and I don’t want to be someone that has a ridiculously long makeup routine, either.  I can do my makeup now in under 10 minutes, which is great when you’re doing it at 6:00am.

And yes, I do have a skincare routine, too, that I’m not factoring into that time…but that needs a little work, too.

But, part of it is that I feel like I’m getting to an age where I need to start taking better care of my skin and some problem areas I’ve always had, and part of is that I’m getting married in a year and a half and I don’t want to be one of these brides who, a month from their wedding, realizes that their skin looks like crap and there’s only so much that you can do to it before the wedding.  My wedding will be one of the few days of my life where I will have a full face of makeup and I don’t want it to look crappy.

My big issue, that I hate; are my super puffy and dark eyes.  As long as I can remember I’ve always had puffiness under my eyes, I’ve always had darkness under there.  It’s hereditary in my family; my Mom’s always had it, Grandma had it, etc.  It’s not from lack of sleep, it’s not stress, nothing like that.  It’s just annoying.  I’ve had it forever.  My one solace in life is that I wear glasses and that makes it less noticeable, because my frames mask a lot of it.

A few months ago I started using a concealer that my friend recommended highly for dark under eye issues, which is Maybelline’s Age Rewind Concealer (Devon had SOOO much fun when I came home with an anti-aging product, let me tell you).  I like it…but I don’t LOVE it.  It works decently enough, but it’s not like life-changing, and it has a tendency to crease and move around as the day goes on, which I REALLY don’t like.  And I know it’s raved everywhere and a lot of people like it, so I’m not knocking it at all, it’s just not my favorite thing.

I actually took a picture of my eyes this morning, (which you all know I’m bad at selfies, so please ignore the weird angle my eyes are looking in) and while it looks better than my eyes do with nothing…I’m not super excited by it:

And no, I didn’t do any eye makeup this morning and my bangs need a trim…but…yeah…

I know I said my eyes are puffy but they don’t really look like it here because I started using the Origins GinZing Eye Cream which is designed to brighten and de-puff your eyes and it helps SOOOO much.  I started using it about a month ago and I’ve seen a huge improvement in the puffiness.  You only need the tiniest amount.  I take a little tiny bit and rub it between my middle fingers to warm it up and just pat and dab it into my eye area in the morning before my moisturizer.  It’s fantastic, I can’t rave about it enough.

But I still feel like I need a better concealer; maybe something that will brighten my eyes a little more and something that will stay matte all day.  So, I’m actually going to head to Ulta today (since we’re dismissing from school early) to check out some products that I’ve been looking at online.  And, yes I love Sephora, but I like that Ulta also has drugstore-like products, too, because if I don’t have to spend $50 for a good concealer, I won’t.  Plus, they have an awesome return policy, so if I don’t like something they’ll take it back easily.

So, I’m going to go and check out some stuff this afternoon, maybe do a little experimenting over the next couple days and see if there is anything I like better than what I’m using and maybe there will be some more eye selfies over the next few days!
