Life Organization Spring Cleaning

Renaissance Time

So, I’m having a moment.  A long moment.  Where I suddenly just have a huge laundry list of things I want to do, improve, change, re-do….something.  It’s kind of crazy.  It’s not a bad crazy, but a little overwhelming.  And it kind of kept me awake last night, which isn’t a good thing because I have a hard enough time falling asleep most nights without all of this.

In my head I have re-decorating and purging of my house that I want to do, some new cosmetic and personal care stuff I want to try out, some organizational stuff I want to implement in the house, finally handling some like personal stuff that I’ve been putting off. and like just so much stuff that, if I could have a genie where I just snap my fingers and it’s all done, that would be great!

But I don’t have a genie, so, this is going to take awhile.

I was talking about this with a couple friends of mine the other night and they called it “The 30 Curse”.  Because….I’m turning 30 in August (insert fake loud scream here) and apparently, it’s a thing to feel this whole period of change and things you want to change about yourself and your life because you’re turning 30.  So it’s like a pre-midlife crisis?  I don’t know.

Honestly, I have no strong feelings one way or another when it comes to turning 30.  I really don’t.  My mother has told me for years that she spent most of her 29th year ill because turning 30  was such a horrendous thought to her.  On the other side I’ve had several friends tell me that turning 30 was the best thing ever.  I genuinely have no strong feelings one way or the other.  So, I don’t relate this whole thing to me turning 30. Could it be?  Sure.  Is it more likely just this thing I do every few years where I feel the urge to purge all the clutter in my living area and change shit?  More likely.

Now, I know myself.  When I get like this, I have a tendency to like….go big or go home; meaning I do everything in a short amount of time and slightly kill myself in the process and I don’t often get the result I’m going for.  So I’m currently dumping everything out in my brain to figure out where I want to start, what I’m putting off, and I guess the order and end result I’m going for.

I’ve determined that the best place for me to start, is to actually purge everything.  Before I try to re-organize or change decor or whatever to my house, I need to get rid of the clutter and stuff I don’t need/want anymore.  Most people have heard of the 40 Bags in 40 Days Challenge, there are all kinds of articles about it online and printables, etc.  I think I’m going to do a kind of modified version.

In fact, I already did my first bag this morning:

And yes, that’s Devon’s PS4 Box that he’s finally ready to get rid of (it’s some weird superstition of his to not get rid of the box immediately).

For some reason, our entryway becomes just like a breeding ground for mailers/boxes that we get when we buy things and instead of throwing them out, we just stack them by the door.  Which, in reality sounds fine, but we don’t get rid of it enough.  So, it’s literally our breeding ground of things that need to be thrown away.  So this morning, I took one of our big trash bags and just got rid of everything that’s been over there.  We have a trash removal service in our development, so I’ll put this bag out this afternoon when I get home so that they can pick it up and it will happily be gone from the house.

Even just that feels good.  Just that little corner being cleared out, it took all of 10 minutes, feels good.  I think that closet that the bag is sitting against (our front closet) is going to be next.  I don’t even know what’s in it anymore.

I think later on today, I’m going to sit down and do my own modified 40 bag list (which likely won’t be 40 bags because our house isn’t THAT big) and see what smaller areas I can clear out in a short amount of time and purge the stuff we don’t need anymore.

I’ll likely post it all here because I kind of need accountability when I take on something like this so that I don’t lose all steam in the middle of the project and to maybe motivate someone else to purge and re-organize their life a little.  I like seeing when other people do it, so hopefully it’s helpful to someone else.

So there will be updates!  Hopefully a lot!  I’m currently really excited about all of it and hopefully I can get some others excited with me!
