I’ve been talking a lot more about self-care recently. Mostly because I was so bad at taking care of myself over the past year that now I’m putting a lot of emphasis on making myself healthier and, overall, taking better care of myself.
Get plenty of sleep
We will start with this one as so many of us struggle to do this. There are always things to do, things that keep us up later than we really want to. We lead busy lives, but our minds and bodies need rest to keep up with all of that.
A good night’s sleep refreshes and recharges us, and whilst we sleep our body heals. We know that we feel better after a good sleep and we function at a higher level too.
Prioritize getting plenty of sleep this month. Go to bed earlier once or twice a week and be strict with yourself and not stay up later than you really need to. To help you get to sleep, avoid screens at least half an hour before you want to sleep.
Up your water intake
This one is so simple to do and it has so many great health benefits. And yes, I know I’m REALLY bad at it, but I’m trying!
We all know that drinking water is good for us. Many of us keep telling ourselves that we must drink more of it, yet somehow don’t get round to it. Like I said, I know I’m one of these people. Make this the month that you are kind to yourself and do it and your mind and body will feel so much better for it.
Get into the habit by keeping a bottle with you at all times and sip from it regularly, Just fill it up whenever you run out, and you will soon find that you are drinking plenty every day.
Tick off those things that you keep putting off
We all have those things that we keep putting off, even though we know that we really should get round to them. It is hard to make the time, especially for things that we are not desperate to do.
Perhaps you know that you are due a dental check up or you might know that you need replacement lenses. While these things are rarely fun, they are necessary to your health and you will feel so much better when you have ticked them off your list.
Pamper your body
Take care of your body and give it a pamper. We push our bodies to keep on going for us every day, so from time to time we need to give it some love.
If you are finding that you have dry winter skin, moisturize it. If your hair is getting out of condition, get a trim or give it a hair mask. Enjoy those little things that give you an instant boost and are kind to your body.
Relax and have fun
What do you love to do when you have some free time? What are the little things that help you to relax?
Perhaps you love watching scary movies, perhaps you like to read or perhaps yoga really helps you to wind down.
Think about those things that allow your body and mind to relax and switch off and make time for more of them this month.
Which ones will you do?
