Awhile back, I mentioned that I was going to tell you about some of my favorite products that I’ve received from my FabFitFun boxes because so much of what comes in those boxes is just so good. A few things haven’t been as exciting as I would have hoped, but there are quite a number of products that I’ve definitely worked into my normal life rotation.
I got this Deep Sleep Pillow Spray in my winter box; so my most recent one (though my new spring one should be coming any day – yay!) and I have to be honest….
If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you know I’ve been an avid fan of the FabFitFun boxes. I’ve gotten them for about a year now and I am constantly amazed at the quality of products in these boxes.
Despite talking about these boxes for almost a year, I’ve realized that I never really talk about any of the products from the box after my initial review of it. And I have determined that is unfair of me because there are some really amazing finds in these boxes. There have been a couple things I’ve been kind of “meh” about, but more often than not I am very impressed.
I admit, I’ve tried the expensive and “cult-favorite” make-up primers and I never really felt like they worked for me.
I have pretty oily skin; as in my T-zone can look like an oil slick within about 2 hours of applying make-up (if I’m lucky and it waits that long) and pretty much all my makeup has melted off within, maybe, 8 hours.
Part of me isn’t mad about it because people with oily skin tend to show age a lot slower than those with dry. You don’t see crows feet and lines/wrinkles as early or as easily. Obviously, some of that is also genetic, but my mother and grandmother and aunt all have the same oily skin issues and none of them have ever looked their ages. So, I’ll live with the oily.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice that I got my hair re-done this past Friday.
It needed it so bad.
Mind you, it was humid that day and I did literally nothing to it except wash it the night before and it was up in some makeshift bun before I pulled it down for the picture…
But…it needed help so much.
So, some chocolate-brown color and about 4 inches chopped off later…
Real talk: I’m super bad at selfies, just an FYI.
There’s even some red undertones in it, which I LOVE!!
It just looks so much better. And it sounds odd, but I feel like darker hair just works better with my fair skin tone. It makes my complexion and face look warmer and gives it some depth. I feel like even just in pictures, my skin tone looks warmer with the darker hair around my face. It could just be me thinking that, but I’m okay with it.
I’m slightly sad because this is the last time I’m going to be able to get my hair cut this short for awhile. After this last cut, we’re pretty much on a maintenance streak, because I want to grow my hair out for the wedding (really not trying to get extensions for length). While I actually like my hair in this shorter collarbone length, I’d like for it to be maybe mid-back-ish for the wedding.
Which means now just trims as opposed to “drastic” cuts and more frequent trims so it doesn’t get out of hand. Then….after we come back from the honeymoon, I can chop it all off again.
I don’t fully know what kind of hairstyle I want for the wedding but I’m thinking of a half updo kind of thing. I’ve started pinning a few things and I really kind of like something like this:
Something where it has a pretty wave but it’s not super rigid curls or a huge mound of curls that overtakes my head.
One thing I love about my hairstylist is that she already wants to see pictures of how I’m envisioning my hair for the wedding because she wants to start shaping it and cutting it the way that will best suit the style that I want. And she wants to start doing that with like the next time I visit her; this way when the wedding comes, my hair is already where it needs to be and shouldn’t need a ton of reshaping or cutting to make it do what I want.
I am also still open to suggestions on hairstyles for the wedding. What I linked above is just what has stuck out to me the most so far, but any other ideas/suggestions are welcomed!
Currently, I’m just happy to have a pretty head of hair again. And I’m not the only person that plays with their hair for like three days after it’s be done, right?
I did actually go to Ulta and Target the other day! Yay me!! I got a few different concealers to try out, most of them are “drugstore brand” concealers, mostly just because I wanted to try the less expensive varieties and see how they worked before I spent a ton of money and invest in a premium concealer. Also, because I tested out a few of the higher end ones (which is one reason why I love Ulta; they have testers of almost everything) and some of them were so thick. I was just testing the feel of them on the back of my hand and some of them felt so heavy and the last thing my oily skin needs is a heavy/weighty concealer. I did grab one higher end one, which wasn’t that expensive because I liked that it didn’t feel super heavy.
