Choosing Dining Chairs

Congratulate us! We finally bought a dining room table!

Ya know…four months after we moved in. But it’s fine. We’ve been indecisive, we’ve been over this.

However, we now have the issue of finding chairs that go with it. We have this issue, partially because the chairs that came with it were out of stock (which WOULD be an issue) and partially because I didn’t really like them anyway. So, now, we need to find chairs. Luckily the table is built after you order it so it takes 4-6 weeks for delivery, and since we just ordered it this past week, we have some time to decide.

Let’s take a look at the table we finally decided on:

I like that the shape is very simple; Devon was hoping for something more “decorative” (I’m not entirely sure what that means) but what he wanted felt too busy and even he admitted, it clashed horribly with the room.

For those who have forgotten, this is our dining room:

It’s very light brown and white. It’s very bright, which is great, but the floors and the window treatments have made it really hard because that light brown can be overwhelming. It pretty much eliminated any shade of brown/wood for a table because it just felt like the colors would compete with each other too much and just look horrible. I’m not into white tables, so that wasn’t an option either.

It’s also a decently sized room, despite the photo’s appearance, so we wanted to get a table that could seat six since that would easily fit there

In finding this gray one, it seemed like an easy fit because while it’s still pretty neutral, like the room itself, it’s a light gray so it’s bright enough to handle the bright room and it will also tie in with the gray counter stools that we have at our island, so there will be some cohesiveness to both rooms, which we need since they’re basically one big room. Plus, it seats 6 without the need of a leaf/extender so that made the decision even easier.

Then comes; what chairs to put with it. The chairs this table comes with are basically the same color and same wood grain as the table. They’re fine, but then it’s going to feel like too much gray for me between the table, chairs and counter stools in the kitchen. Since everything, at this point, is pretty neutral I’m actually thinking about going with chairs that have…

COLOR!

I know it’s very uncharacteristic of me. But I feel like it could use a little bit of color now that we have the staple pieces very neutral and, again, the fact that the room/space itself is pretty neutral.

And nothing crazy, but something like.

Blue tufted chairs

I like the chair color itself but again I’m having the issue of the leg colors essentially being the same as the room itself. I feel like the legs either need to be lighter or a deep black color for contrast. Like:

I also kind of like the thought of a different chair at the heads of the table to add a little more dimension. A similar style to these chairs but something with a little more of an arm, like:

While I have time to figure it all out, I want to try to at least narrow my brain down a bit.

Open to thoughts/comments/suggestions/smacks in the head because we know I’m indecisive AF and need all the help I can get!
