If you’ve been here for a minute, you know Devon and I love our Ihop breakfast dates. We’ve had them well over a decade and with the pandemic and Sterling being so little, more often than not, we’ve had them at home the past couple years.

But today we took Sterling to his first breakfast date with Mom and Dad (as opposed to just doing it at home) and he had himself a grand time.

We’ve taken him out to eat before but this was the first time not in a high chair (he was in a booster) and where we pretty much let him eat how he wanted.

He had a ball.

And promptly got a case of “the itis” and immediately passed out for his nap when we got home.

Ihop pancakes hit like that, what can we say.

Merry Christmas everyone! Sterling is on the men

Merry Christmas everyone!

Sterling is on the mend from an ear infection so we are keeping it cozy at home for the holiday this year.

He actually opened his gifts this year and is already enjoying what Santa brought him.

Devon wanted to get him the chair/lounger he’s sitting on and, I was hesitant, but Sterling is already obsessed with it. He dragged it into the kitchen to watch TV while we made breakfast.

Good move, Dad.

Sterling is napping soundly now. So Devon and I are relaxing and randomly napping ourselves this afternoon.

We’re going to do a simple dinner tonight with Ham and some sides.

I wish little one didn’t get sick for the holiday, but despite it, this has been a great and quiet holiday. Just what we needed.

I hope everyone is with family and friends today. And if you can’t be, I hope you are finding some peace and enjoyment today.

Happy annual Christmas Decorating Day!

Also Black Friday.

Whatever you choose to call today.

This is the day we online shop, put up the tree and nap on and off as we see fit.

This is the first year we really got to enjoy this with Sterling. He was only 6 months old last year so while he looked at the lights and got all excited, he couldn’t really participate yet.

This year he got to help us hang a couple ornaments and hand us things and see it all light up more so than last year. He’s definitely going to have more fun than he was able to last year.

Sterling also turned 18 months old today. He’s this every unique mix of Devon and I in so many ways, but also his own little stubborn person in others. He’s more independent than I ever expected for an 18 month old but also a snuggly cuddly little baby who is happiest sitting in between mom and dad at all times. I look forward to spending this holiday season with him.

And yes, we’re definitely a “non-aesthetic Christmas tree household so as long as he doesn’t knock it down, he can’t really hurt it.

I hope everyone’s holiday weekend has been restful and peaceful.

This memory popped up in my Facebook memories this morning and it caught me in the feels.

I feel like I don’t even remember him being this little anymore. He’s getting so big and independent and vocal and all the things.

He’s a big toddler who wants to still act like a baby sometimes but also be completely independent and not get help from anyone.

I’ll be honest, I don’t fully miss this time, but I miss this little baby sometimes.

We got the @walmart Toy Book in the mail and he is obsessed with it. Reminds me of the old school ToysRUs Christmas catalogs that always came out.

I went to Aldi for the first time in quite awhile

I went to Aldi for the first time in quite awhile the other day and felt compelled to do a “shop with me” kind of video. Not sure why, but it was fun to film while I was there.

AND ONG GUESS WHAT I FOUND!

Self-checkouts!

I know, I know. Some @aldiusa’s have had them for quite awhile but mine didn’t. It made my little introverted self so happy.

So come along with me as I do some grocery shopping and also manage to (mostly) avoid Aldi’s aisle of “shame” (I only got one thing, that’s a success for me).

This week has been hard. Really hard. For a lot of

This week has been hard. Really hard. For a lot of different reasons.

But one being that I said goodbye to my beloved tank of an SUV. And I know so many would find this to be such a trivial and it may be but saying goodbye to this car is hard.

Partially because I’ve had it for so long. I’ve had it for almost 8 years. It’s been through everything humanly possible (including getting hit by a fire truck) and survived.

And partially because I should still be driving it. Im not going to go into all of it, but basically this car is inoperable and in need of a new engine at 99,000 miles because someone didn’t so their job properly (others words not mine).

I shouldn’t have to sell an SUV in excellent condition (in every other way) off for parts at 99,000 miles.

So I am a lot of things about a lot of things.

About this? I’m angry. And just because a salvage company has it doesn’t mean the fight for it over; even if it just means someone else doesn’t get scammed like I did.

RIP Tanker Girl; you were good to me. You kept my baby safe and for that I’m forever grateful.

I long for the day where I celebrate all of my accomplishments as much as my child does.

He claps/applauds himself gor EVERYTHING.

Does he know how to stand? Yes.
Has he done it a million times? Also yes.
Does he still applaud himself for it every time? Definitely, yes.

Someone graduated to the Toddler Room at Daycare today!

Not gonna lie, he looks like he’s about 5 years old these days and my mommy heart is breaking a bit.

My big boy is just getting bigger and smarter and more independent every day.

I may have teared up a bit when I left him with the toddler teachers today but I am so proud of him; he did so good today.

My 11th year as a school counselor has finally come to an end.

This year was definitely filled with its challenges. It was also filled with a lot of great memories with my students and coworkers/work family.

Here is hoping all of my fellow #schoolcounselors and educators have a great and restful summer and that everyone is ready to do it again in the fall!

Similarly to Mothers Day; Father’s Day was another holiday I rarely celebrated. These days were always reminders of relationships I didn’t have for one reason or another.

But knowing that our son has a dad who loves him, is patient with him (sometimes more patient than me), and will always be there for him means everything to me.
