Shorts/Life Lately

*If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know why I’ve been noticeably absent the past couple of weeks. But, for those that don’t; we made the unbelievably hard decision to put Maya down on June 7th. I know she was 20 years old and I know she had an amazingly long and happy life, but doing it literally felt like I was killing a part of myself. She went to sleep in my arms and there are moments where I can still feel that last moment with her. I know it was what was best for her, but I’ve been struggling trying to “get back to normal” without her here and trying to deal with grieving her loss. I try to remember that being home the past few months wound up being a blessing because I got to spend so much more time with her than I would have if I’d been working. Being home, now, is a lot harder because I just sit at home wallowing and looking for her. But I’m trying to get back to normal, or at least a new normal and coming back here is also a way to do that.

* Today is officially mine and Devon’s last day of school! Yay!….except I work two weeks in July as well as two weeks in August and then its time to go back to school in August. So…really I actually think I’m working pretty much the whole month of August. Basically I’m on “summer break” for the next two weeks….and then for the last two weeks of July and that’s it. And who says educators “have summers off”. Pshhh.

*Now that things are starting to open up Devon was talking about doing a couple of day trips. I think it’s mostly him trying to get me out of the house because he knows being here isn’t helping my life right now. Anyone who knows Devon knows he’s not typically one to “suggest” going places; he likes being home more than I do. I don’t know where we’ll go, but it’ll be nice to get out of the house a bit.

*At some point during the past couple of weeks, Devon decided that we need to bring back “Block Party Summers” at our house. If you’re our age or older you remember when Nick at Nite had a different show marathoned every night during the week; it was amazing. We’re super old school, so we (aka Devon) decided to do “Married with Children” Mondays, “I Love Lucy” Tuesdays, “Bewitched” (Be)Wednesdays (ya’ll remember that), “I Dream of Jeannie” Thursdays, and “Frasier” Fridays. Since we’ve had three months to catch up on our Netflix backlog, this is helping us cure the “now what do we watch” conundrum.

*Our anniversary is in a week and we still don’t know what to do for it. I’m sure we’ll figure something out. Maybe, now, we’ll actually go out somewhere. Who knows.

*OH! and because I know everyone has waited with baited breath (read: mostly just Devon) we FINALLY got a rug for the basement. It’s arriving today, hopefully it works!

I know the past few weeks have been hard for everyone. I hope everyone is still learning and listening and using their voices to help those that need it.
