Favorite Netflix Binges

Last week I talked about my recent YouTube binges and a lot of you really seemed to like it, so I figured, why not add Netflix into the mix?

I’ve mentioned before that, Devon and I didn’t really have Netflix until a few months ago. It was just one of those things that we didn’t see the need to spend money on and we have a huge DVD collection along with about 1000 cable TV channels, so we didn’t feel like it was necessary.

I still can’t fully remember why we decided to go down the Netflix rabbit hole, but it’s working for those times when all of our above mentioned options just aren’t working for us (AKA we’re being super picky). And, since we got it, we’ve started using it quite a bit, actually probably a lot more than either of us would have expected.

Since our…binging started we’ve found a few series’ that are amazing and definitely worth a binge if you are looking for something new to check out while you’re on vacation.

I’m going to attempt to stay away from some of the “super popular” shows that you’ve probably heard of, but….we’ll see how that works.

Bodyguard

If you’ve seen Game of Thrones, you’ll recognize Richard Madden (aka Robb Stark) in the lead role here. This is a really good show. I’m fairly certain there’s only like 6 episodes, but worth it. It has a kind-of similar plot line to the movie “The Bodyguard” with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner…kinda…sorta, but she’s not an actress, she’s a member of Parliament…anyway, watch it.  It’s a good one.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

If you’re my age, you watched Sabrina, The Teenage Witch; this is a little bit of a darker spin on the show.  Really, you could easily watch this even if you didn’t watch the original show.  You have to like the supernatural and ghosts to really get into it, but it’s another easy binge that shouldn’t be too scary…

Black Mirror

So…this show is a “psychological thriller” so essentially, it will mess with your head a bit, so if you aren’t into that; don’t watch this.  There are 4 or 5 seasons, I can’t remember, but the good thing is, the episodes are stand-alone episodes, so you can really just pick one at random and watch it.  It’s not a series that builds on itself; each episode is a different weird thing that is happening that is completely unrelated to any other episode.  This is a show that can be a little hit or miss, so read through the synopsis before you watch an episode, but for the most part, definitely a show we like when we don’t want to be super invested in watching hours of TV.

GLOW

This one…might take some convincing, but it’s actually really good.  You might have to have seen/watched Wrestling (WWE) before to really get it, but even if you haven’t there’s a pretty good story behind it.  Plus, it has Marc Maron (and Netflix has all of his stand up specials, so if you’ve never heard of him before…watch his comedy specials first – he’s hilarious) which makes it all the funnier.  It’s a great comedy/drama show…it’s VERY 80’s, so it’s kind of like a nice trip down memory lane, too.  Try it…just trust me on this.

Arrested Development

I mean….come on.  I don’t really have to sell you here, do I? They have the newest season of Arrested Development…and it’s magnificent.  Just…watch it.

Finally, if you like laughing (and if you don’t, I don’t know why you’re here), check out the hundreds of thousands of hours of comedy specials available on Netflix.  They have all of the big named people like Dave Chapelle, Jim Gaffigan, Kevin James, Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy, etc.  But if you want some others, obviously I mentioned Marc Maron before, Kathleen Madigan, Patton Oswalt, Iliza Schlesinger, Chris D’Elia, and Demetri Martin.  I’m fairly certain the comedy shows would be more than enough to keep you entertained for YEARS.

See? I did manage to not mention shows like Stranger Things or The Haunting of Hill House, which we’ve watched and enjoyed, too, but hopefully, you can find something entertaining out of this list here.

Are there are any Netflix favorites that we need to add to our list?  Leave them in a comment below!
